Preamble
Brisbane Handball Club (BHC) is committed to fostering a positive and inclusive environment where all members feel respected, valued, and safe. This Code of Conduct outlines the expectations for behaviour and conduct for all players, coaches, officials, administrators, volunteers, and spectators associated with the club.
By adhering to this Code of Conduct, we aim to:
- Promote fair play and sportsmanship.
- Create a welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere for everyone.
- Uphold the reputation of BHC and the sport of handball.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all members.
I. Respect for Others
- Treat everyone with dignity and respect, regardless of age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, ability, or background.
- Use appropriate language. Avoid offensive, abusive, or discriminatory language.
- Resolve disagreements respectfully. Do not engage in physical or verbal altercations.
- Respect the decisions of officials. Do not argue with or harass officials.
- Be supportive of teammates and opponents. Offer encouragement and avoid negative comments.
II. Sportsmanship
- Play fair and within the rules of the game.
- Maintain a positive attitude, even in defeat.
- Shake hands with opponents and officials before and after matches.
- Avoid any behaviour that could bring the club or the sport into disrepute.
III. Commitment to the Club
- Attend training sessions and matches regularly.
- Be punctual and prepared.
- Communicate effectively with coaches and teammates.
- Support club activities and events.
- Wear the designated club uniform with pride.
IV. Safety
- Follow all safety guidelines and instructions from coaches and officials.
- Report any injuries or safety concerns immediately.
- Ensure a safe and clean environment for all.
V. Social Media and Online Conduct
- Represent BHC positively online.
- Avoid posting offensive, discriminatory, or inappropriate content.
- Respect the privacy of others.
- Be mindful of the club's reputation when interacting online.
VI. Alcohol and Drugs
- Players are prohibited from consuming alcohol or drugs before or during matches and training sessions.
- Excessive consumption of alcohol at club events is discouraged.
VII. Breaches of the Code of Conduct
Any breaches of this Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action, which may include:
- Verbal warning
- Written warning
- Suspension from training or matches
- Expulsion from the club
The severity of the disciplinary action will depend on the nature and severity of the breach.
VIII. Reporting Concerns
If you witness or experience any behaviour that violates this Code of Conduct, please report it to:
- Your team coach
- A club administrator
All reports will be treated confidentially. BHC prohibits retaliation against anyone who reports a concern in good faith.
IX. Review
This Code of Conduct will be reviewed periodically and updated as necessary.
